Clark Conservation District provides low-cost rental of equipment for small-scale producers to safely process poultry for home consumption, or to slaughter poultry for direct marketing with a WSDA permit. At this time no other poultry processing equipment is available for rent in Clark County. The CCD project helps producers fill the demand for locally-grown chicken, turkey, and other poultry..

EQUIPMENT RENTAL PROCEDURES 
CCD poultry processing equipment is available for a rental fee of $50, plus a $50 deposit to be refunded when returned clean and on time (over 15 minutes late and we will keep your deposit).

POULTRY PROCESSING EQUIPMENT
Our equipment rental package includes:

  • Featherman Plucker
  • Scalder
  • Dunker and Shackles
  • Chill Tank
  • Kill Cone Stand
  • Killing Cones
    • Small turkey (4)
    • Chicken (8)

You will need to provide:

  • Two strong people to move equipment
  • Power source for the plucker and scalder
  • Propane tank to heat scalding water
  • Hose (2 ideally) and water source
  • Knives
  • Table for processing
  • Meat storage bags
  • Ice for chilling birds

EQUIPMENT PICKUP 
The equipment package is contained in a small box trailer. Borrowers need a truck or vehicle with a 2" ball, a flat 4 pin trailer wiring connector and sufficient power and braking to tow the trailer.

The trailer plus equipment weighs approximately 1,500 lbs. Consult your owner’s manual to ensure the trailer is within the towing capacity of your vehicle.  Remember that passenger weight exceeding 150 lbs, optional equipment, and additional cargo should be considered. Never exceed your vehicle’s towing capacity because doing so can affect your vehicle’s handling, stopping ability, or possibly even damage the drivetrain.

WSDA POULTRY PROCESSING INFORMATION
No permits are required to process poultry for home consumption. The Washington State Department of Agriculture created a special permit to allow on-farm processing of up to 1,000 birds for direct marketing.
